Afterthoughts and Possibilities

Thank you for a warm reception for A Simple Twist of Fae! It's been a ride creating this project, and I learned a lot along the way!

I'll touch lightly on that in a moment, but first of all, shout out to beta testers!

I can't express how crucial it was to have several eyes on this project before launch. Esh, Yuno, Ririkutai and Kattie, I really want to thank you. Not only for catching errors, disclosing game breaking bugs, and helping correct my nearly infinite typos, but you all offered feedback, that allowed me to either make corrections that improved the story and presentation, or that helped me grow as a game dev for future projects. 💗🙏🥹

Which brings me back to the point I made about learning along the way! A Simple Twist of Fae was originally this nebulous concept: Manga, faeries and otome... And uh... That's never a good idea starting out. I'm usually a person who has to know exactly what the beginning and end of my story looks like before I commit to it. And this game was the reason. I was on the fence about several endings. And about how my characters would develop over the course of the story.

This meant I rewrote scenes much more than I expected to. Much more than I wanted to.

When I finally had the story solidified, it was very different than how it started. And of course, my scope changed with it. I think it's imperative to know your story so you can more accurately gage the scope.

"But JmB, what about all that art? Don't you regret letting your scope take you there?"

Not at all.

If anything, due to being grossly over schedule, my shoulder saying "please stop", and the strong need to actually release the thing, are the only reasons I think I left out a few scenes. Originally there was a scene with Viv that would have been a proper CG. And two other scenes as well.

When making a game, I'm learning that my need to express visually is very strong. I'll always enjoy drawing and expressing through art for as long as I am able. So with art and design, I'll most likely do this again- if I can chok my works full of art and design, especially if it makes people feel, I'm happy to do it!

Going forward.

I want to do more with this story. I want to release on Steam as well. I might consider after stories 😏 🌶️, and I would like to showcase a Music room so players can access some of the lofi beats I came to love, with links to some of the artists that allowed me to use their music to make this game come to life. I might even commission some physical collectibles of the characters if this story ever reaches that level of notice ☺️❣️

I may get the community involved to help me reach some of these goals- I'll keep you posted!
